It seems odd to me that the New Year is celebrated with hundreds of thousands of people crammed into Times Square, entertained by the next generation of pop stars, in the late hours of darkness. Pick a date on the calendar and celebrate it as a new beginning, but celebrate it in the morning, when the sun is fresh in the sky, and creation is handed back to us, a gift too precious even for a king.
